Tameside College

CBO Transport was appointed by Tameside College to prepare a Transport Assessment and provide input to a Travel Plan Framework to support proposals for the provision of a new college building in Ashton-Under-Lyne.

The scheme is proposed on the existing Camp Street car park in the town centre and would result in the loss of around 130 public car parking spaces. There are also no proposals to provide additional parking in association with the college. The key element of the transport assessment was therefore to consider the implications for parking in the town.

Detailed traffic flow and car park surveys were therefore undertaken across a 12 hour period to understand how the existing car park was being utilised. Consideration was then given to how this parking would be displaced around the town.

Extensive work was also undertaken in relation to trip generation associated with the new facility. This used information provided by the college in relation to envisaged use of the building and information obtained from the TRICS database to determine a profile of movements at the college by all modes. From this, it was possible to determine likely parking levels at the college and their impact on town centre parking.
